I presented at the Perth SharePoint User Group tonight on Enterprise 2.0 and how Web 2.0 has influenced it and how the SharePoint Platform allows the Enterprise to actually implement it.
There were a few good points raised which I'll cover very briefly and follow up more with at a later date:
- User Profiles - Organisational Hierarchy Web Part - "can it only be done on My Manager property in Active Directory?"
As Rick quite rightly pointed out, it appears to be going off the My Manager property of the SharePoint User Profile, which by default is mapped, in the Shared Services settings, to the Active Directory property. There is nothing stopping you changing this mapping to another source such as an LDAP directory or even a database repository etc. - My Site - Shared Documents - File Allocations - "do you find that you give the same size allocations to My Sites as you do for file systems?"
My answer to this was basically that you would probably find that most people would be hesitant at first to start using the shared documents library to save their files. Adoption wouldn't be fast but would be accelerated by the roll out of Office 2007 Suite. I also suggested that how people would change from saving project documents locally in their own My Documents as a reference, to just adding a link to the document in the Project site in their My Links web part or even more basic ... just searching for it. This would reduce a lot of duplication of data and I think the whole Document Management story comes into play here in terms of the savings and paradigm shift. - Blogs - finding things - "do you find that finding things in Blogs is too hard?"
My answer to this was basically to explain the architecture of the Blogs site template and how the underlying posts are just a List Item. Therefore these will be returned as part of the search, as well as any Blog Comments etc. when matches occur. - there were more but I've forgotten them...anyway care to remind me?
Just as an FYI Mike Gannotti's article on advanced search extensions in the Enterprise is worth a read.
I will be following up further with more detailed articles on what I discussed in the presentation. The main headings were:

The ROI of Enterprise Social Networking
