M$ goes after a piece of pie off Interwoven, Hummingbird, Objective and TRIM

March 20, 2006

There is a good web cast here which outlines what they are covering, after 20 minutes it goes into migration details. In summary, they claim: Document Management, Records Management, Web Content Management and Forms Management with regards to Workflow, Metadata, Policy, Search, Security, Collaboration, Deployment etc.

I’ve put my name down for the beta 2 program. Be interesting to see if they respond with more details. It’d be good to look under the hood to see what are the key differences between Office 2007 and RedDot/Teamsite implementations.

From scanning that web cast, it looks like M$ will tick every box that Interwoven and RedDot do. The main features that Interwoven sell with are workflow, deployment, security and WYSIWYG editing and M$ will do this, but can’t say for sure how close.

They also have the ability to support anonymous users and authenticated users with personalization on the top…which Teamsite and RedDot don’t do easily in one administration console. RedDot has LiveServer and TeamSite has LiveSite for this. These basically put dynamic engines on top of the deployed content from both eCMS's which allows for enterprise level searching and some personalisation.

There is a ‘Microsoft SharePoint Conference 2006’ at the end of this month and I would expect more features to start being announced then unofficially.
